Urban designThe Hudson is a high-density development in an existing urban area, which reduces pressure on undeveloped land in the region. It also uses a pre-developed site and incorporates the existing Hudson’s Bay heritage building, offering residents the efficiency and convenience of well-established local services and transit systems to reduce automobile dependency. |
Solid waste managementBy incorporating the existing Hudson’s Bay heritage building Townline avoids sending 1,400 dump trucks of demolition waste to landfill. We also avoid the emissions and traffic of an additional 900 truckloads of new construction material. Most kitchens will have a built-in recycling drawer that will allow residents to easily separate garbage from recyclable paper and containers. |
Water efficiencyAs the flushing of toilets accounts for about 1/3 of all household water use, high-efficiency dual-flush toilets are specified in all residences. In fact, all water fixtures will use low-flow or ultra-low flow technology and all laundry and dishwasher units specified will meet or exceed water efficiency standards. |
Landscape designLandscape design at The Hudson will be designed with drought-resistant plants to minimize water consumption and promote the creation of habitat for native species. Where possible, recaptured stormwater will be used for irrigation. Energy efficient landscape lighting will reduce both electricity consumption and light pollution, creating an urban environment that is both enjoyable and responsible. |
